Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth and sing for joy, yes, sing praises! Psalm 98:4 (Amplified)
...and so she sings!
A wife and mother of two, Janet Dokes is also a worshipper of Christ, singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, businesswoman, mentor and aspiring author. She also happens to serve as a lead soloist at the largest church in America. Her greatest musical influence was her mother. Add to the mix her father who was the pastor of her church, and it’s easy to see how Janet’s strong passion for musical praise evolved. In Crosby, Texas, she was reared in a family that was not only Christ-centered but also musically gifted. At the tender age of 3, she began performing for her family and then for audiences within her community. She began singing duets with her brother and later sang with several singing groups that traveled throughout the state.
Today, she brings a flavor all her own seasoned with a blend of where she's been and where she's going. In 2000, Janet began her international travels ministering the gospel through music for conferences and crusades for Christ. She values worshipping God over money, fame and accolades and is more interested in how many lives are blessed, touched or changed because of her ministry. Because of her desire to give back and bless others, in 2003 Janet and her sister started Kingdom Quest Ministries, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 for youth ages 8 to 18 that provides camps that foster learning, sharing and growing in their journey with Christ. She has also lead the You’re Worth It! Ministry for girls at Lakewood Church which reaches out to junior high girls in underserved Greater Houston areas.
After graduating from Crosby High School, she went on to graduate from LeTourneau University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. She serves on staff in Pastoral Care Ministries at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas pastored by Joel and Victoria Osteen. As part of the Creative Ministry at Lakewood, she worships alongside many greats in the Christian music world today. She enjoys sharing her life with her husband, best friend and love of her life, Destry Dokes, and their beautiful children, Giana and Keith. One of Janet's favorite scriptures is John 3:30 which says, He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less (NLT). It reminds her that God is the reason why she sings. For Janet, singing is more than a career choice...it is her ministry and her gift to God!
